Hey nerds! Here's a fun update for you.
I have been having some awesome DDoS attacks on my freicoin mining pool (https://freicoin.us) It was not a problem until they started using half of the bandwidth on the east coast! I was kicked out of that datacenter for using so much bandwidth and am using another one.
I do my own DDoS protection and as such I have a large number of nodes, but only one ip address that broadcasts as an "in proxy"
I found that a modified version of FreiCoin's Parks–McClellan FIR filter algorithm can work wonders for DDoS prevention. I was wondering if any of you guys had other experiences with DDoS are were interested in discussing the idea of using audio filters as a means of anti DDoS.
I found the filter allows a bit extra traffic than i want, but it also pulses it well enough that most attackers machines actually ruin themselves as I have some external random noise added in to the filter so as to make the waveform of the attack unique. Using this unique traffic pattern as well, I have been able to hone in on zombie computers that are part of these attacks and report them to those who need to know.
