Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

The following is a rough draft for the voice-over narration used in a short video project. The video will briefly describe both the history and details of the current Soap Lake Lava Lamp. It's release date is still TBD. Check the Volunteer Discussion for potential opportunities to help and get involved!

Long ago lava flows and ice age floods made the coulee corridor. Wow!

Minerals and water collect in a hole. This becomes Soap Lake.

Soap Lake is discovered and it heals people. Crowds go crazy for it.

Sanitariums are built on the lakes edge. BTW, Sanitariums are not insane asylums. Look it up.

A town is built and business booms. For a while.

Researchers discover penicillin and make medicine. Medicine heals people too. Crowds forget about Soap Lake.

Some people stay anyway. They say its beautiful. You should go see it.

The beauty inspires a creative breed.

Artists build a theatre. Artists build an art gallery. Artists build a human figure sundial.

Artist Brent Blake has an epiphany. Soap Lake needs the worlds largest Lava Lamp. Groovy.

Brent tells some people. Those people tell some people. Word gets out.

The Giant Lava Lamp stars in a feature length independent film “The Worlds Largest”.

Everybody wants it but nobody knows how to build it.

Target saves the day. They have a giant mechanical lava lamp sign hanging in Time Square. Convenient.

Target ships their sign to Soap Lake in many pieces. Brent says ‘Oh my gosh’.

The Target Lamp has no instructions for reassembly. Atomic Props offers million dollar solution.

Soap Lake considers options. Target Lamp rusts. Some people laugh at misfortune. Sad times.

Meanwhile, Architect Andrew Kovach designs a new 60’ Lava Lamp. It uses lasers. Sweet.

Kovach tells some people. Those people tell some people. Word gets out.

Lava Lite LLC and the City of Soap Lake give the green light. GO GO GO!

I didn't know about some of this history. Very cool. Are there any pictures of this Target lamp that rusted? I think photos of that could certainly become neat framed pieces inside the lamp itself.
An idea to rase funds could be to do some intresting stuff with the target lamp - how about cutting it up peace by peace and making it into sculptures and then selling it on to rase funds or even trying to auction the whole lot off .... Ebay perhaps LOL
All good ideas! It was a huge deal for Target to gift their lamp to Soap Lake and it deserves a special remembrance. The amount of steel alone is worth a chunk of change. There are a couple video's made that talk a bit more about the Target Lamp. We'll find those links and post them here.

This link is more about the history of Soap Lake, but it sets the stage for where the world's largest Lava Lamp will be and introduces Brent Blake, the artist behind the concept.

So is Lava Lite working with you at all on this project? Did you need their blessing to move forward?

Well lava lite basickly gave the project there brand name and the right to use the word 'lava lamp' which is technicaly branded to Lava Lite.

If Lava Lite dident give them this there could be a law sute on soaplake's hands (the last thing they need).

The thing is that this project could give lava lite a reminder to improve there formular - they branded a 62foot lava lamp then why not get there lamps to work better.
