We have it built. We have the name. The lamp itself is done... We are running into cost issues right now and we are exhausting all of our resources to reach our price point. I cannot wait till I get the go ahead to post pics and video of it. It is truly a magnificent lamp. I will keep you all informed on progress.
Can't wait to see them... is not being able to buy materials in bulk what is holding the price up or.......? Ever think of selling a first batch like apple did the iphone for WAY more than the intended price. (Or at least for the first six months) Or maybe eBay with a huge B.I.N. price, someone paid 910 dollars the other day for a rare wave machine, wonder if other people that are not oozing goo members would freak and pay a ridiculous amount for them just because no one else has them.
Mark,
We had set up an experiment with the blacklight white. We have tried different amounts of surf which didn't seem to affect it. Then we ran it really hot and that didn't ruin it either. We have been running the three test tubes of the blacklight white since the week of your first inquiry.
For now you can message me your address and I will send out some more blacklight clear to you.
Is Johnny back on the scene yet? The goo kit sales page has changed quite a bit and I'm not sure what to order... I want to redo a grande in orange and an astro bottle in light blue. Any recommendations as to what to order to get this done...?
Btw does anyone know if a goo kit produces all that shimmery light reflection off the walls that grandes put out from time to time...? Love that aspect of the grande...
Not digging that new goo kit page - I don't know what the heck to order as no wax quantities are mentioned, and the postage to Australia was going to be $46 USD :-[
Hey Everyone,
I am sorry I have not been on in a while but I have been extremely busy. I left Magma Tower a while back for multiple reasons. I have had a great opportunity with a film project I have been working on and that is my biggest reason for my disappearance. If you have emailed me it has been forwarded straight to magma tower. I do not know what is going on with them and will not be able to answer any questions. I will try to check back with oozinggoo but I no longer receive notices now that my old email is controlled by the company.
Questions and concerns can be emailed directly to Gus:
We have caught-up and have shipped all Goo Kit orders. Sorry for the delay.. We will try to ship within 48 hrs after receipt of payment.
Gus@magmatower.com
I'd love to have a small pile of them to experiment with as well. I'm just now getting started on the road to figuring out how to refill them. If it works out like my other science projects I'll probably have some pretty good lamps before it's over. Can't wait to post the pics as things become available!
Hi guys, can someone pls let me know what's in a goo kit now that the shop page has changed? Is it all the same stuff as in the picture above? I'm really keen to order one but I don't know if I have to get each element separately or if it all comes together - that new shop page is pretty vague on details... :-\
Ah ha! I was hoping that was the case - thanks for the info Dr, and for the fast response :)
Would you believe that the postage to Australia costs more than the kit?! International postage is such a rip off these days... never mind though, the coin jar should cover it this time around.
The next pay check is getting me one of these kits at long last :)
Hello, is it possible to make the wachs more "milky"? My Green one gets so orange when the Lamp is on. The Wachs in the Mathmos Lams looks very different.
The Flow of my Kit is great, but i dont like the clear wachs.
Where did you get the coils? I too am going to do a conversion and i'm just waiting for my kit. Did you use the original coil and the one they gave you?
I cut the included coil in the kit in two smaller ones. The coils were very! long. the coil is I think about 60cm long, without stretching ore something else.
I used only 30ml of the kit surfactant in my 250oz Giant refill. I wanted more elongated columns of goo rather than small blobs. After 7 months of use, the flow has worked out fine for me.
Your results may vary...;)
Also, I'm using an external dimmer switch/cord with my 100 watt bulb. I have it set somewhere in the 60-70 watt range.
Now i put more destilated water in it. I think its now about 40-45ml surfactant. The Wachs bubbles are now bigger and not so much at the top of the lamp. Looks better. But the colours are getting darker :-(. Ultra dark green and black red purple, ore something. Hm?
I think my 75W bulbs are way too much Power. Today the Temperature in my room was about 24°C. And the Lamps made hundreds of 10mm little Wachs bubbles and thousens micro wachs bubbels... Now I put 60W bulbs in. I will look what happens now.
When it will not work i must buy an expensive dimmer...
The Problem is i must Change the Wattage per Hand on the dimmer. The Lamps on a timer Clock isnt so bad. Tomorrow i will check how long the heating time will be. Now it looks very good with 60W spots.
I've got 3 Grandes that seem to have died :( I'll be working on cleaning & refilling sometime this summer. Does anyone have pics of the Blacklight colors? All I can find is the White that Jonny posted.
Think the light isnt enough, but will see. Perhaps a external Black light kathode ore something will not be so bad...
One of my Grandes heats up better. The glass at the bottom is little bit thicker. I think thats it.
WOW, I didn't realize that Turkish's pics were of the orange! I can't wait to snatch these up! Thanks for the link, Doc. You're white is why I'm sooo interested!
Great job J Chow - well done on getting a blue that's not too dark too! I just did a grande and an astro on the weekend as well and it is a bit of fun hey. I hardly added any blue to the astro and it went waaaay dark... still looks good though, but I was aiming for a light blue... anyway, I can't believe how good a grande looks with a goo kit - absolutely stunning! Great job and congrats to Gus and magma tower for such a good product and brilliant service. Can't wait to get my next kit in a couple of weeks :)
I have a little problem. After 1 week of use the flow gets bader and bader. I use a 100W Bulb with a dimmer. I think 80W ore so. The goo gets a lot of water bubbels in it and at the bottom baked some goo at the glas. At the bottom is soemthing white, i dont know what this is. The goo bubbles get back to the bottom but they wont go together than before. So i get only small and not many bubbels.
The flow from my mathmos is better and i use it daily since 10 jears.
When it gets more bad i will sell the lamps. im very dissapointed.
In the manuel is nothing written that i should rinse it out with surfactant?!
I rinsed it out with destillated water, ad the coil an put the warm goo in it.
Put destillated water in it and ad 50ml of surfactant
Hm and how should i do this? Pull water out, warm up the goo and pull it out. I think this will not work so good.
At the first days the goo was not baked / glued at the bottom walls.
Thats my second kit and i put a lot of money in shipping to Germany...
Just wanted to pass along some information I discovered on Friday 5/21/10. I called Magma Towers at 562-602-2842 to talk to someone about the goo kits and learn a little more. Here's what I discovered by talking with Lizette. By the way, she answered the phone, unlike Lava World! Ha!
I understand that the goo kits may be offered on eBay as early as next week, Wednesday 05/26/10. Lizette is waiting on some final touches to the plan.
In questioning her about the kits I found out two things. One was that she thinks the kit will be offered with green, yellow and blue dyes. Red will be a custom dye at around $5 USD additional. I thought that was odd. Anyway, wait and see what shows up on eBay.
I also asked what they use to dye the water with after the surf is added. She says they have never colored the water. Has anybody ever made a lamp with a goo kit using food coloring or such? Seems it might mess up the specific gravity balance set up in the goo from the factory. Either way, I'm looking forward to trying my hand at it in the near future. I have a 32oz. globe calling my name.
Hm i put the lava and water from one Lamp out. I bought 6 Pink/clear Mathmos Astro lamps. Will see how good this will work in the grande.
Was not easy to get the baked goo from the bottom. used nearly boiling water, some liquid soap and a brush to get it clear.
Mettalic wax on hold. We are working on the new lamp, the Spectrum, which will have LED's, heat pad, and mp3 aux plug. About 50 inches tall. Should be ready to show in less than 30 days.
