Well... I saw the first one back in 1998 in a shop, I was totally mesmerized... but here in Italy ot was hard to find and ebay was yet to come (internet as well, more or less), plus it costed pretty much for a teenager, so I postponed....
Then, at times, I thought: "oh it would be nice to have A lava lamp"...but years passed by... then I started to see once in a while on ebay, and was always upset by the shipping price.
Finally, at the end of june, I decided to get one... but 8 came almost immediately. I now try to limitate myself saying: "well, I'll get onòly the seventies' ones" or"I'll get only the midnights"... But knowing myself and considered how I love these lamps, I fear I'll have a hundered or more....poor wallet!!!
If you're lucky you can pick up a vintage one at a car boot sale (like a garage sale). For new Mathmos stuff there are only a few outlets here in London although you can purchase their products on-line of course.
Sorry Daniele, that last post was from me actually, just in case you're wondering! (re: Big Leb)
I read your profile = looks like you had to be really patient for your first (8!) lava lamps! Me too!

Thank you so much for your nice comments and your interest. As of right now I dont plan to get rid of the enchantress planter, sorry. And I dont have a clear red century, maybe one of my pictures looked like it??? I have a clear pink, but a friend recently gave me that and I dont have the heart to part with it since it was a gift. Thanks.
Hello and happy birthday - hope you're having a good one!
Thanks for the comments on the photos - there'll be lots more to come as I continue my sun fading experiment with the grande. I think it's showing promising signs of looking heaps better as it lightens up :)
Cheers Rod
Beast background dude how did you put it like that?? Oh and my little sister was born in 1998 she is 10 now and she has a pink and purple lavalite!! It's cool that she enjoy's something i do to. well thanks for being my friend!
Sorry, A guy on eBay just has a bottle of wax and fluid for $450. I'll try eBay and Amazon for $475. It's 1 of 100,and I have the other 2. So it's 1 of 97, in original box, and packing slip. One doesn't bubble, needs to be "recharged" I'll let it go for $200, you do the work. I'm paralyzed or I'd do it myself. I paid $100 almost 5 years ago. They were collectors items then. That's why they were $99 not $49.
The wax is stuck on the bottom. There are instructions here in the forums on how to "recharge" the goo(wax) to make it go. Sometimes you just heat it up, sometimes you have to open and add things.
Danile, if you're still interested in my lamp please get back to me.
If you're not. Please let me know. I thought it only proper to give you first dibs since you made me that offer in Febuary.
I'm going to have to call the post office. I think it's what they call "Oversize" which means it's larger than 12x12x12. I don't want to take it to one of those post office stores. Now as it is. It would cost $54 to send a regular box. It's 30x12x12 in the box from Lavalite. But I'd love to get it at least in a box with another inch (2.5cm) of padding around it. I'd hate to have a broken lamp.
When you had lamps shipped, were they USPS or UPS? And how much did it cost to ship?
Mike
I just called post office. They said do not use USPS to ship. It is oversized and the said international is terrible these days. They said it should be crated (wood around box) or it probably wouldn't make it. And its very expensive. I am calling fedex and ups to check on prices.
I don't know how you got that lava grande shipped unless they lied about the contents. USPS says they would trash it. Fedex and UPS want a fortune! They say it would have to be double bagged in case it were broken and the liquid came out. One in the box one around the box. And theu have no rates cheap enough since it technically would have to go airport to airport as freight. This is not looking to good. Maybe we should just forget it?
