Wow never realised the 'bullet' on the nose cone was attached to the bottle cap as seen on that baby to the right of your pic featuring your two lunars and two 'spare' vases.
I've noticed on my new 'instant messenger' that people's avatars are appearing. First it was just mine then joined by your b/f Sam and now Arne? It will be interesting to see who's added next.
Sorry I'm not able to use 'goo chat' at work so looks like i am being unsociable lol. I hope you are well. Why have these people got it in for Astrobaby so bad?
As I finally bought myself a galaxy, I wondered about one thing: does yours slowly wawe when turned on with the help of the fan or does the fan only purpose is to cool the lamp? (because mine doesn't wawe,, the fan is working but no wawing of the fibers)
I got it today so it needed a new plug (I'm in france) to be turned on.
The base of the fibers, this cylinder grouping them was a bit vertically bent but nothing to prevent the lamp to work. I'm just wondering if they were replaced or not... because I read that the Galaxy got many thousands of fibers and I was expecting more... Maybe too much expectations!
Just when looking at the base of the fibers through the dome, I can see a metal slice that the fibers go through and this slide has nearly one third cut, like missing and is replaced by what seems plastic. Does yours have the same?
About the fibers, in my lamp there are nearly in the middle of the lenght left between the base and the upper dome and as some are slightly longer than others the effect is very cool.
Anyway, you are right, this is a great lamp even without it's feet. I'm still wondering if I will use them or not.
hi lucy, nice to hear from you i hope you get this only im a newby and having probs with this site right now, anyway i only have a couple of lamps not been collecting long but so far its wiped the bank out :o), i have 2x 70s creastworth telstar glitters one chrome and one copper, a creastworth lantern, 2x white jets and 2x black early metal jets but around 7 different bottles some rare colourways, 3x of the dayglow jets just need the green one, 2x astro's, 2x astro babys 1x lava and 1x glitter and 1 lunar with a clear/orange and clear/glitter and blue/green bottles, trouble is spare cash and room for them, i just love your lava display in your home looks real cool, its good you and your partner both love lava's my wife says there okay :o( so i just have around 3 or 4 lamps out at a time and just change them over or change the bottles if the jets are out. i will take a look at your pic's now im a member, its all goo stuff. take care luce :o) i will put some pic's on once i understand how :o)
hi lucy, thanks for your comments, yes its a drug isn't it and yes i love the galaxy fiber optic lamp you have i would love one buy i keep wondering where i would put one as im short of space one thing are they noisy with the built in motor for the fan? i will try at some point and place a video of the lunar glitter its a gem of a bottle so bright lights the room up and boy it flows very well, i got it from ultra violet-infered on ebay cost a bomb, i want a blue and clear like yours i spoke to mathmos yesterday thier master mixer is on holiday for two weeks so have to wait, does it flow well for you only i bought a new green/blue from mathmos came today but after 4 hours it stops flowing just a large blob?? not sure why its a mathmos :o( i will have to ask the question in the forum some point soon, well thanks luce been nice to speak, oh did sam ask for the buy it now price on the lunar currently on ebay :o) thought it may be him in the questions asking for a buy it now. take care :o)
Yesterday evening I got a bad surprise... I turned on my galaxy and fund that it didn't change colors so often to only display white and red.. So I took a look inside to find that the glass colored disk got broken in 3 parts during the shipping, one piece staying stucked on the motor... I guess I'm due to some glue today before truely enjoying the lamp!
hi lucy, thanks for your info and yes i understand the lamp is getting very hot its just a little disappointing its like you said in one of your comments on the fluidium that the light shines through the base and does not light the lavar much the whole point is to have the lavar as the center point, well i had the lunar on low last night and its in near darkness this does spoil the whole thing as the lunar looks ace and they flow like no other lamp i think you aggree so it would be nice to have them at full light, this new bottle only gave 1 1/2 hours of full flow before giving up, but im not one to give in and i will do as you say regarding first start up then dim it down until its just flowing and yes its new and new bottles take time to run in, thanks lucy for your kind replies happy gooing to you and sam :o)
thanks lucy your gr8 :o) i have been on the dog and bone to mathmos they told me the same as you and sam :o) well i thought no need to speak to mathmos any longer just go to the goo world all answers are out there :o) they did tell me that a guy on ebay sells the bottles at a high price claims they are geniune mathmos but they are not and wont work well, mmmm i have two of his bottles mind you they flow bloody great :o) i did not tell mathmos that not sure they would have appreciated it :o( well i will wait until the cash builds up and then get a custom bottle from them, i would like the red in clear that looks cool, take care luce :o)
yep your right if i was cleaver enough i would have lots of colour combs, mind you i like colour wax in clear liquid rather than colour liquid (in the lunar) by the way i have a white jet with white wax/clear looks great but the flow isn't gr8 after 2 hours the wax is just blobs (small) strange though put the bottle in an early black metal/bakelite jet base and it flows better for longer i think the white jet needs to run on a dimmer! but looks fab :o)
It's already done, I just hope the glue will endure the heat or I'll have to replace the disk. I took a look on the internet and saw some companies selling that kind of disk but they are rather expensive.
I used that time to tighten some screws too, like the one keeping the fan engine. About that fan, you were right, it is a really slight wawe and in my lamp it appears only above the fan, the rest of the fibers doesn't move. I'll try to figure a way to make them move too.
Thanks for your support! ..smile....
Heya Lucy still here into the wee small hours. I knew it would kick off when that 'glitterball' jet thread started. (i think it's more a metallic) Oh well, a bit of exitement on O/G, as long as no one gets upset or insulted.
thanks lucy let me know when you get them, of course i will pay before you send. am off to spain for a week so will mail you when i get back to arrange postage. i dont have paypal. are you in the uk?? x chris
Big Adams fan here. Read the Hitchhiker books back in the 70's. They are some of my all time fave reads. the Hitchhiker series on BBC from back in the day was super and followed the books beautifully. I still have the books and VHS tapes of the series. Didn't like the movie from a few years back though. Too many liberties taken with the story. I did read the detective books but have little memory of them.

Thanks for the advice-I find it so weird that the lava is already at the top of the globe, I thought that's what salt was for! Oh well, who knows! Thanks again!
thanks lucy just let me know when you get them. hope your well. p.s have you down loaded the free screen saver from mathmos web site yet? its really cool xx chris
One time, I saw a man looking at me, and he, uh, picked up a tube. and he made the moon, big inside the tube. ah the moon big inside a tube! ah haha ahh telescope :)
Hey, I already sent you a gift - why did it not register on your profile page? Maybe I messed it up too - probably too much blabbing and ran out of room.
Thanks for the welcome, I love your name! I've always been a huge Doctor Who fan but there's always room for Douglas too. And well, pretty much any UK sci-fi!
I'll upload some pics as soon as I have some, I finally received my Crestworth today (been waiting about 3 weeks since buying it on ebay) so I have lots to photograph.
I'll make sure I have a look at his pics, thanks for the tip. My Crestworth is a copper coloured Astro (I think, I'm very new to all this!). It's very cloudy but I'm trying to find out how to resolve that issue. It's definitely my favourite lamp despite that. I also recently added another Telstar, just because it was cheap and I didn't have a green/blue bottle. I think my husband may start to worry soon!
I'll get some pics taken and put on the site very soon. I think the world needs to see my rubbish few pieces!
hey ford, figured you have logged out, so i'll just leave u a comment just to tell u that i've wrote the discussion.. please take ur time reading it and give me any advices on how to fix it right.. :(
