It has a plastic cap inside the metal cap. I may try to separate them later. If I can then I can use modern astrobaby globes and use the metal cap like a modern cap. I ordered some replacement screw on aluminum caps like the ones used in modern Mathmos lamps so I can easily work on the lamps formula without having to put stress on the original cap. I also need to replace the rubber seal on this because for some reason it had 2 rubber seals that were both half way sucked into the globe. I'm hoping the seas from the replacement aluminum caps can be repurposed if not I'll need to find some new rubber seals.
Beautiful lamp! Mine has a plastic cap and is from Oct 72 or 73. I'm guessing the earlier models had the metal cap and later models had the plastic cap?
