I've tried that too, Autumn. I'll be doing another round of tests tonight!
I will tell your secret to no one.
Thanks for the advice Shawn. When I had it on a 40w bulb, it just sat there in a mound on the bottom (stuff still stuck at top). When I put in a 60W, it would rise, but only half way (stuff still stuck at top). No matter what I did, when heated up, that stuff at the top would not descend.
Since I turned it off last night, this morning, I was able to gently shake the lamp and the top part finally fell to the bottom. It would seem the lighter part of the wax has separated and is hanging out at the top of the lamp when on.
lol well I just think this color combo, overheats very badly. When I first got my 52 oz. (brand new from LW) it was on a 40 watt it wouldn't take more then 2 hours for it to overheat and detach from the coil and sit in a hovering blob due to the overheating. It pretty much acted like yours. So instead of super heating it with a 60 watt, use a 25 watt for most of the day and see what happens. But first I'd let it cool completely so you can flip the globe around to get the top part of the wax to fall down so it can all remelt together. If you can't get it down then just let it melt as much as possible and wiggle the top of the globe so it starts to fall. It'll come down eventually and then run it on a 25w.
It looks like it hasn't been run much at all. I ran it last night on a 60 and I the lava would rise half way up and then wouldn't do anything else. I can't seem to get the lava at the top to come down (when lamp is warmed up) and the lava at the bottom won't meet the top stuff. It's a 2001 blue/red USA made, so I have hopes that it can be fixed.
I wanted a blue/red so badly and I got this piece of doodie! LOL
Yeah, I know. :( I've been trying a method recommend by Autumn, but so far, no go. We'll see how it does tonight. I've read your posts Spence and my last result will be popping the cap and boiling the lava to get it to go together.
