This photo shows the difference between the old filament bulbs and the halogen bulbs well. See the bright base on the opal? That's a filament bulb. All the rest are running on the 40W halogen bulbs (all 4 lamps are on dimmers - at about 1/2 power). I run them like this for 6-8 hours, sometimes more, at a time and they never overheat or start to boil. They also produce less bubbles in the wax due to the slow flow.
