My Orange/black was one of only three from Spencer's online that I've gotten that were perfect.  It was a bit cloudy, but amazingly, it cleared after running for a week or so, a "CHINA" lamp???  Shock!   My other two goodies were the Rainbows, both perfect. I can't say that for a few more I've gotten there----terrible.   So sorry you all had the "dark" problem with this one, it's lovely if it's good.

I dumped the whole thing and goo kitted it. It was way too dark

Black lava dye is actually just a super saturated purple. Totally normal.

I am not sure how to decipher the code on the cap to determine the date. The wax at the top of the lamp looks dark purple. I am sure when it is flowing it will look black. I am a llittle surprised at how dark this lamp is.
