Thanks for the advice, I've never made a lava lamp before so this is all new to me. This is actually something I had laying around which is made from acrylic - it would definitely not be suitable for the real thing but I just wanted to know if the shape would work as a lava lamp!

Claude J - could you tell me what SURF is exactly? I've never heard of it before

if you were to fill this with lava, I suggest you use a flexible hose (on the end of a funnel) to get the lava to the bottom after you coat the globe with SURF
