Odd little fiber optic lamp - anyone seen one like it?

Got this on eBay for $12 shipped. Kinda cool, but the base is tacky as hell. The base is painted resin. Top is glass. Fibers appear to be plastic. Rotating colors - pink, red, orange, blue, purple. Don't think it has a color wheel, but rather an LED. Battery powered with three AA batteries. It's old(er), but can't be that old. Anyone have any input?

It's got a short in it too, somewhere, so sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Housing for batteries is glued in, so not sure how easy it would be to get to the wiring.

That's really cute!  I really like it, Erin.  It's not tacky, it's shabby chic, all the rage now. :-)  I would have bought it too, but have no earthly idea if it's custom or not, or how old it is.

I wondered about that - maybe something someone built. It's got really cool colors and is pretty neat to watch. I have plans to paint it, but the short in the wiring kinda bums me out.

The horrible base does make me think it's custom.
