Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

the original labels that were stuck to T.L.C north hollywood glitter lamps which were produced in the early 80's.
its obvious that they are to warn people of the toxic nature of the chemical used.

thanks jonas for the info, your right that they are toxic, but if looked after they are the best glitter lamps around. love the way the glitter moves fast and the reflective nature of the light is awsome. i can only find a fifteen watt in this country so will use that. i am currently revamping the tlc lamp rewiring etc and printing new stickers for the lamp and re felting the bottom. the globe is perfect condition and works brilliantly so leaving that. pics coming soon. thanks chris

Yeah, the various chlorinated solvents - trichloroethane, perchloroethylene, trichlorotrifluoroethane - sound as friendly as they are. Solvents are in 80s Chinese and Taiwanese imports (like the TLC lamps), GemLites and Wizards, Crestworth "fast glitters" and Living Jewels, Fantasia Products glitters and Glitter Graphics, and French, Italian, German and Russian lamps of the 70s. They can, with time, actually eat the silver coating off the mylar glitter. A photo from LavaWorld, when production was still in Chicago, shows a worker wearing a respirator mask while checking fill levels in Wizard globes.

As stated, if one of these gets broken, open the windows, turn on the fans, and clear out for an hour or two. And if you're refilling one, do it outside with a mask. I'd suggest using the smallest wattage bulb you can on the TLC lamp - a ten-watt bulb should run it, fifteen is OK. Fifteen is the max. I'll put in any solvent glitter.
