Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

32oz Gookit, final glowing touch, capped up!

Glow powder adds a nice UV property to the lamp and seems to add a slight pearled finish to the wax, allowing a subtle color shift under normal light.

Good to know Dr. What?! I got a reply from the powder people and they suggested I lean towards their PD tints as they are solvent based. I may order a 5g sample and try it out in a globe.

I will be totally copying you if I can find those metallic lamps that cheap Deb!

I cheated on the metallic look. Just bought a couple of these lamps at a local Hastings book store for $12 and transferred into a 32 oz. LL globe :)

Love to make a UV lamp. I have a shot glitter Grande that needs some goo :)

Hey thanks! and the guy who used to help run magma tower (aka gookits) did try a metallic pigment for car paints. I guess it worked for a little while the all eventually settle at the bottom and didnt mix anymore with the wax.

Awesome job!  I love all the custom lamp work you have done, top notch!  I may try those inks out as well, I have an email in with a chameleon pigment dealer to see if they think their powder is suitable for wax application or maybe offer an ink/oil based format of the pigment.

I got the ink at hobby lobby. Same stuff as this http://www.sunshinecrafts.com/p/METALLIC-GOLDSILVER-ALCOHOL-INK-SET...

And yeah brushed steel. Learned that trick a while back on this site.

OoOo That is pretty sweet!! I like the texture it adds, kind of similar look that I want to go for with a color shifter. Where did you get this metallic alcohol ink? Nice lamp, looks to have a brushed base too!

Here is it day one of running. After 2 weeks of running, its not nearly as marbled looking as before. I usually have to run it on full blast so get more silver out of it now.

Very interesting on the ink addition, I may look into that as well!

I am currently on the hunt for materials that work well to make a metallic/color shift wax similar to the fancy cars you see change from purple to green.  I will keep you posted on any material findings, keep me posted on yours as well!
