Yes, the background does move and the colors sort of blend into each other and change shapes.   I can't really describe it too well, but it is a beautiful effect.   The clear front on the clock is heavy plastic, but is "wavy," not flat.   There are two candlebra bulbs on either side in the back, 25 watt, behind two tin/foil like reflectors.  I'm not sure what is rotating to make the colors change though.  It does have a nice snap on white heavy plastic back to cover the insides, but strangely, no battery cover.   All of them are like that.   It shows pics on the box.

Besides the hands on the clock face, does the lighted background move or rotate?

BTW, there were 24 bids on this lamp before the dust settled......and I was number 24.   Sorry if I bid against any of my OG buddies, but I didn't recognize but one, and I don't think he's on here.

Thanks so much, Kirk and Blob!!   I feel very lucky to have gotten this one at the price I did.  I love it, and it's keeping perfect time, and the colors are stunning in person.  I saw the one that's on Ebay now, and I agree, the price is way too high. 

Don't worry, guys, another one will show up when you least expect it!!   Fingers crossed.  ;-))
