Its totally stock and sealed. Never opened it up, Its always been crystal clear. I bought it at a store in Sherman Oak, CA called "Light Bulbs Unlimited" locally about 2 1/2 years ago.

As with all clear/black from my understanding, they don't look the best in a totally dark room. They look a lot better in a room with a lot of ambient light because the light from the lamp does not reflect off the black lava, it just get absorbed. It's kind of hard to watch the flow in a dark room. When the room is well lit, however, the lamp looks amazing!!! This is one of my favorite lamps.

From what I hear most of these grandes are crap. I would say wait till Lava comes out with the new formula ones. I just got really lucky with mine.

Also wondering can see the any of the lava shapes flowing with all lights off?

Where did you get your Black Grande? It looks pretty crystal clear unless you pump filtered it. I am in the market for one soon.
