One other thing, do make sure the fine metal coil is sitting in the base of the lamp nicely and is completely covered by the wax.

This is always a shame when a brand new lamp fails to flow.

This 'no-flow' could be for a number of reasons, now i'm guessing the room isn't ice cold so that would rule that one out. Usually it's down to bulb wattage although it's not suggested to go mad and have too high a wattage bulb installed. What brand of lamp is it. Is it by Lava Lite? (Formerley Lava World etc.) Do you have any pics to upload?
