I received what I believe is an original Century Model from the 60's for Valentines Day 2010.  My profile photo show the lamp the first night I lit it. The bulb did not work when I got it so I went…Continue

Got an original 1960's lamp for Valentine's Day 2010-red lava with yello liquid. I love it! I was sold the wrong bulb-a 45 watt bulb and now my lamp is cloudy as a result, I think. Hopefully I can find a 30 watt bulb and things will clear up. If not, my very first lamp that I've wanted since childhood is ruined.

Thanks for the kind words Maria. I only have 10 lamps as of today but as you can see I only try to get the very clearest and most colorful lamps I can find. A cloudy lamp is just such a bummer to me. It makes me sad when one gets wasted like that. In regard to your cloudy lamp, I've heard that sometimes it will work its way back to normal but not very often. The liquid can be filtered but it's not always easy and you could potentially be dealing with poisonous stuff in the process. I filtered a lamp once with nothing but coffee filters. The liquid looked clear but as it heated up it became slightly cloudy. Best bet is to get a goo kit or simply replace the globe if you can find a suitable replacement. I'm in the process of trying to learn how to make my own goo. Wish me luck on that. I'll let you know how it goes after the first batch is complete.

Hi Maria:

I was reading about your woes concerning the lamp. Sorry to hear about it. I wish I had more to add to the conversation but it seems a lot of others have chimed in already with some good info. I too have had my share of moments where I had a lamp that just went to the great lava vault in the sky. By the way, welcome to the Goo! Hope that you make a lot of nice friends here and learn a lot about the lava. Hope to see you around in the forums.
