I have to say, it sounds like you've bought a fairly modern lava lamp and sometimes the quality is a bit lacking. If there is some shape like a column of lava but no lava bubbles then it probably will be the wattage of bulb. By the way, Mathmos here in the UK make very high quality lava lamps.
Hey Raj, any luck with your lamp yet? What type is it? Usually wattage of the bulb is the main issue. also how long the lamp has been dormant can play a part. If it is very old this can also have a bearing on the functionality.
