Lava lamps are an escape from my favorite two things that make noise:
Clocks and cars:

The first goes tick-tock - the other, well, is unpredictable!

Still I drive my partner crazy with all of them!

My First Lava Lamp was:
Bought on a lark from Edmund Scientific cause it was cheap and had clear liquid and blue metallic "lava."
Thanks to this site, I bought my second lamp: a "real" one albeit miniature.
It's on my desk at work and is a source of endless delight to my co-workers!
