Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

It's tragic, I first made a profile here forever ago, intending to dive right into the lava community after falling in love with my new neon pink Heritage Grande. Unfortunately, that lamp stopped flowing completely not long after I got it... I tried everything (I thought at the time, anyway) but it refused to move. It honestly broke my heart because I loved that lamp SO MUCH. And this was years after my twin brother shook and (at the time I assumed) ruined my very first lava lamp when we were in our teens, which kept me from lava until I came across pictures of the Heritage Grande and couldn't resist.

Anyway, after both of these bad experiences I quit lava lamps for many, many years. I've always been a HUGE lover of all kinds of lights. String lights, paper star lights, real candles, flameless candles, nightlights, motion lamps, light toys, fiber optic lights, EVERYTHING, if it's a type of light, you name it and I probably love it. I've attended all but the first couple years of Electric Forest in Rothbury, MI, a music and arts festival especially known for the incredible lights displayed in the forest at nighttime. So in the years following my breakup with lava, I still got my lighting fix, but not from lava.

Until this year, when my boyfriend gifted me his late stepdad's 1990's clear/purple Midnight 17" lamp. My boyfriend had heard my sob story of my beloved Heritage Grande quitting on me and he knew I'd appreciate the lamp. Because of how badly things went with my old neon pink, I knew I had to baby this lamp because of how special it was. So I did a bunch of reading about lava lamps before even running it for the first time, including joining the lava lamps Reddit sub. And that's where I learned of the ~$75 Amazon sale on purple/pink Grandes via post from some beautiful angel out there. Thank you, kind soul!

Well, not only did I fall in love with the Midnight once I finally ran it for the first time, obviously things with the Grande went well too because I ended buying not just one but FOUR of those sale Grandes. Since then, I've also acquired two more Grandes thanks to FB marketplace, and several 1990's 17" lamps. My collection is ever growing, and my most pressing lava related goal is to eventually REFURBISH and HEAL my damaged neon/pink Heritage Grande. The liquid is completely milky and the wax is chunky and mottled with black pieces (and an undoubtedly corroded coil!) so it should be to fun to see what, if anything, I can do for it!

I can't believe it took me so long to rediscover my love of lava lamps. I have grown completely obsessed in just a matter of months! I hope to learn new things and make new friends, I am very excited to be here :)
