Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

first off sorry its been so long since my last blog post all my teachers have decided to drown me in work. I've decided that i'm going to go with spot 2 but I'm keeping the owl painting. thanks for your guys' suggestions. Also originally I wanted to do floating shelfs but im not sure if it will be strong enough to support the weight of the lamps. the shelf is going to be about 10 ft long im not sure how deep i want it but i definitely plan on getting a grande at some point it wouldnt necessarily have to be on the shelf though. What did you guys do for your shelves or do you have any suggestions. also im going to have wall mounted power strips underneath the shelf so it only needs to be deep enough for the lamps themselves.

kelly im building it myself and yea like you said but I was thinking of having a hinged front that would pull down to access the power strip but i kinda like the open bottom idea better

So you’d end up with a shelf that looks like a free floating fireplace mantle but with an open bottom.  The top of the shelf will have divets cut so you can drop the electrical cord through between the wall and the back of the “box.”  Having the bottom (horizontal to the floor) open, allows for air flow and for you to reach up underneath and access the power strip.  Like in the pics below, but no bottom.

Hi Cate, are you going to make the shelves or buy ready-made?  If you make them (or have someone make them for you), you could install a trim piece on the front to hide the electrical.  That’s what we are considering too.

Hi , hope school is doing well,  school 1st then lava ! . Spot 2 will be great . Yes you can do floating shelf’s you just need to anchor it in the wall when you screw you into the wall , they make a few tools that do this at the hardware store . It’s like a piece of plastic that the screw goes inside of when it’s in the wall , or another screw that has a peice of metal that opens up to hold on inside the wall . My shelf’s are floating .

just don’t overload them with weight , anything over a 52 oz globe . I wouldn’t put on a shelf like mine , or something very heavy like a granda. Here are some pics of what I did . My cables are a mess but mostly hidden . I took a power strip and 2 screw into the wall to hold the power strip on the wall . Hope this helps
