Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

*edit

Any lamp is fair game now, not just the beatles and harley lamps. This thread has grown far beyond my expectations! 0.0

I really dont understand why these are always listed for ridiculous amounts. I see them all the time for $100 buy it now. I have a harley lamp and I want to sell it because I dont like it. Someone locally tried to sell me a beatles lamp for $100. Are these people nuts? Why do they all seem to list them for stupidly high prices?

Anyways I thought it would be fun to see who can find the most over priced harley davidson or beatles submarine lamp.

I am setting the bar really high.

I wrote that guy about his other lamp - a "vintage" China grande.
I will sometimes write the seller and tell them a little info about their lamp they're selling. They almost always get defensive and tell me I'm wrong and that the lamp has been int he family for 30 years. LOL I just feel sorry for anyone who might buy it.
ive done that once, on that mismatched planter. the guy just ignored me haha
LOL ill do it :D
Yep, that's the same guy I contacted. Where do they get it in their heads that these pieces of junk are worth that? I think to non-collectors, they likely just check completed listings on eBay for lava lamps, see that a handful of them went for over $100 and think they can sell theirs for that amount, because hey, all lava lamps are created equal, right?

I see more mis-listed "rare", "vintage" and "hard to find" items on there than I care to. *I* know what I'm looking at, but many buyers won't.
"It has moon-rock-like lava in it" Does that mean it's powder that doesn't flow? lol
I offered $5 and told him that they can be bought for $15 brand new from china.
heres my message to him:
the coil on this lamp is rusty, and has leaked into the wax, this lamp is not vintage, as it is only 10 years old, whereas vintage is more than 30 years old. this lamp is definitely not worth $135. Spencers used to sell these, and if i recall correctly they were around $20-$30 new. yours isnt new, and its rusty. i offer $10. also, does this lamp even flow??
The average seller sees Bohdan's lamps going for big bucks and thinks that all lamps are worth that. They don't realize that most of those buying his lamps know him from here and know that the lamps are quality.
We should really be posting pics with these. :)
