Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Like so many others, I too have a cloudy Grande. I knew that's what I was buying when I found it on eBay though. It was $50 shipped.

I waited about two days before I dumped it. I did attempt to run it once last night, but since I couldn't really see the lava, I can only assume this thing had some sort of aneurysm by the looks of it today:

Seriously, it actually kinda grossed me out:

Another gross shot:

I followed Shawn's lovely tutorial for Goo-Kitting and only spilled twice. ;)

Blue duct tape!

Clean globe, with 60s Century on in the background for inspiration:   :)

And blah, blah, blah, now I'm waiting for its first run!

My plans are to dye the liquid (water) green, paint the base a muted copper and drill holes in it like a Century.

More news as I progress! Can't wait to see this running.

Turned out great Erin!!  Easy eh?  To get the old wax out, I empty mine about 2/3, and it's heats up in a couple hours or so, and everything pours out neatly and cleanly.  Just have to scrub the old liquid off the inside.  No wax stuck. Safer than the stove.

I also made a thread a while back you should add your goo kit pic to:

Three votes for oatmeal! :)

Thanks for the tips Wile. Much appreciated. I'll add my pic to the group! :D
Wile! I never knew this thread existed!  I will link it within the gookit tutorial. Those are all great examples!

OK, so I have my 100W floods. I'm still having issues! The lamp isn't getting hot enough. It was doing better with the 100W non-flood and tinfoil, to be honest. We have the A/C on and the house is about 78.

Thoughts anyone?

Keep the 100w spot bulb and ditch the foil and the A/C (or increase its tempercher slightly) and then see what hapens - it shpuld flow better.

I think its the A/C which is causing the issues.

It's ON the 100W spot bulb. I DID ditch the foil, and today, the A/C is off.

I'll report back! :)
How far away is the bulb from the globe ? I know some Grande bases have had a shorter stem on the socket causing the bulb to sit too far away. A bulb extender should help if it will fit. Im really surprised that a Gookit wont flow on a 100 watt bulb. Im quite sure the room temp is not the issue as my lamps flow fine and I keep my AC set at 72 all the time
It does seem lower, but I'll check it for sure tonight.

Thanks Jim. :)

I know with my stacked bottle lamp, I have issues with it flowing because it sits by itself (no other lamps around it) on a shelf and near the A/C vent. When it's cold in the room, the lamps takes FOREVER to flow, if at all. But when the A/C is off and the windows are open it'll flow just fine.

Hey Erin did you keep any of the red goo or the fluid?
I kept the wax, but not the liquid.

If you're interested in the wax, I'd send it to you.
