Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

My uncle gave me 2 of these that he bought in Japan in the late 60's or early 70's.

No name or markings that I can find.  Both cloudy.  I have read about replacing the water but I cannot get the top (copper colored) off.  Are these glued on?  Screwed on?

If Lava Meister is seeing this I am about 30 minutes north of you in Apex.  Would love your input and to see them in person for advice.

Thanks,

Seth Roberts  seth@realtor.com

Ok, I can't get pics to load no matter how small I make them.
