Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Ok I would like to ask all of your opinions about using a dimmer switch for the lamps that like to run hot? I have herd of some people doing this. What do all of you think?
I think you can get a dimmer switch that you just plug in to the wall and then plug the lamp into the dimmer.

I've used them. They work great.

The credenza is the one that I've bought. They are a bit spendy (about $15-17 a piece) but they work.
Thanks for all the info.
