Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I made a SOBE lava lamp using the Retro-basic formula. Right now, it is just plain in color. How can I color the liquid without affecting the Lava's color?
Also, how can I color the wax. I don;t have access to wax dye, and pastels and crayons look like crap. What about fabric dye for clothing, will it bleed in the water?
