Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi! I was given a lava lamp my freshman year in college by my former dorm roommate. I'm not sure if she gave it to me in 2000 or 2001. Anyway, I still have it, but can't find this particular style anywhere except for one that was for sale on ebay... but the seller couldn't provide any information. Also, it seems to be not flowing. I got a new bulb and it still doesn't really do anything. The large coil is flush at the bottom and the smaller one was in the middle. When I heat it up I try to get it closer to the center. I'll provide a picture of course of what it looks like. Hope someone can help me with the model and what could be wrong with it! (It was kept in a closet for years, so there was no direct sunlight involved.)

Hi Victoria,

I have the same model as you. The tag on the electrical wire says it's an Oozy Glo Lamp model EB-986.

My bulb recently burned out. This is the first time I have to replace it, but I cannot figure out how to separate the globe from the base. It is stuck on and will not budge. You mentioned that you changed your bulb. Can you tell me how you removed the globe from the base? Is it some kind of adhesive keeping the globe on the base?

Thanks

Hiya,

I have no idea why it's attached to the base! Mine always just sat on top of the base. I also have no tags anymore for what kind of model this is. I was told on this forum that it was from Spencer's and called Molten Motion. Since I couldn't find this anywhere on the internet, I'd like to see if yours is the same as mine.  As for me, I have the opposite problem...I can't get the plastic top off! It used to come off... ugh. So, if I need to fix my lava, it's going to be really difficult!  Is yours from year early years of 2000?

My cap just sits on top. I've never had a problems with it. I haven't any idea how old the lamp is. I've had it since about 2008.

I've been trying to twist the base to loosen the globe, but 1. I'm afraid of breaking off the fins, 2. It's very difficult to get a good grip on the globe. I was thinking to use some goop remover (you know, that orange oil based stuff that you use to remove adhesive, tree pitch and a buncha other stuff) and just trickle a little between the globe and the base to see if it would seep down into the sticky bits and hopefully free it up. Has anyone else tried that with any success?
