Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hey every one, as I think I have mentioned before, I bought 2 heritage grandes and they wouldn't flow after the second or third run. I contacted Lava Lite, and they sent two more lamps (very nice of them), but these also had flow issues.  Anyway, I am almost 100% sure adding a second coil would get these going. Anybody know of a good source of coils, I know there have been discussions about replacement coils before, but I though maybe there is a better source available now. I tried the plated steel springs from Lowes, and they began rusting in my aristocrat.  I was thinking maybe 5 below lamps? What do you guys think?

That was my Original Yellow/Blue Grande I was talking about. I took it back and exchanged it for the one I have now. It works great it's red/clear. Cowmation's Grande is doing the same thing though.

Rick it does sound like an overheating issue...I would definitely try a dimmer before you turn to goo kitting.  Not that I wouldn't mind kitting a grande but it does take a whole entire quart of goo and quite a bit of distilled water.  Still you would get awesome flow from a kitted grande.  I usually don't like to give up on my LL's until there's just nothing more that I can improve upon.

I'm happy to report I figured mine out. You were right Carol, totally an overheating problem. I took both my Starships apart and found that the socket was about a quarter of an inch higher (closer to the globe) and it had a high intensity S11N bulb instead of a regular S11N. I adjusted the height of the socket to the same as the other one and straightened it so it's centered, put them back together and it ran great for over 3 hours after warming up. So after I get a regular intensity bulb it should be good.
