Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi.. here are my (2) 32 oz lamps.. notice how the blue/clear has alot of blobs the longer it heats.. BTW.. I did purchase the frosted 40watt bulb. do you still think it is overheating or could it be normal for this lamp? Also here is the red/ clear that looks pink.. What do you think?

They both look overheating.  Maybe try putting them on dimmer? The Clear/Red looks like Yellow/Red to me.  But it could happen to a Clear/Red when some of the chemicals from the red goo got into the clear liquid and color it a bit.
They are both defiantly overheating - if you have tried a frosted bulb and they are still doing this then put them on a dimmer and dim them down until you get the desired flow.

The red has leaked a lot and I don't think that fading it would sort it out, - TBH I would leave it as it is. If you really want to sort it out then either get a new globe (2nd hand US globe) or goo kit the globe you have there.
Thanks for the info.. Im going to get a dimmer. But Im wondering why do they overheat when you use the right bulb? Also could I put in a 25watt frosted bulb instead of the dimmer switch? Or would this wattage not be hot enough to get the lamp started?

A 25W bulb could work but its best to use a dimmer - that way you have better control with the lamp and the flow etc.

Lamps tend to overheat if they are cheaper lamps (i.e. peace lamps), if they have been left on for a long time and it most often depends on the wax itself - some wax tends to overheat more quickly then others.

thanks alot tim.. youve been most informative. im on my way to buy a dimmer.. Also wanted to ask, do those goo kits work that our posted on ebay?

Yea the goo kits are realy good - i have sorted out 2 globes using the gookit and there are more waiting.

Its a good way to sort out a rubish lamp or create a custom lamp easley.
