so of them.
Oh, wait - I should give an honorable mention to my red/clear Colossus. It too, is spectacular!
Ummm... Should also mention Erin's Mystique glitter -- so nicely conceived and the glitter flow and color are something to behold.
And then there's the Confetti glitter - a sweet, sweet, sweet flashing red and blue beauty!
I apologize if I've left anyone out...

ntally saw a Florence art glitter and have been obsessed ever since). I am purchasing a Mystique later this week and trying to get a Florence glitter also. I still have to learn more about the lavas - but I love the stunning vintage ones. I'm going to save up and see if I can get an Aladdin. The choices are soooo tempting (but there don't seem to be many vintages out there - is it because you few guys have them all squirreled away? ;-)
Thanks again for everything. You're terrific!!!
Best,
Jen…

But how can you be mad when they're so cute. Cute on the surface but they will rip your face off. Don't be fooled.

'Mystique'- rare lava version
flat and hold it while it cools.
For the missing top, go to a sign shop that works with Plexiglas and bring a complete top (steel and plastic parts). Have them cut a new plate of 1/8" (or slightly less if they have it) black Plexi, then have them glue on some tiny scraps so that it won't wiggle. They use a special chemical glue (actually a chlorinated solvent similar to what's in the fast glitters) that causes the two pieces of Plexi to liquefy and then solidify as one piece. If you want it to be really detailed, and they have the tools, have them "fire polish" the edges and corners - or do it yourself with a pen torch. Just a quick run-over with a hot, focused flame will polish and soften corners and edges.
These are spectacular lamps, and that refill is classy. The lava ones are much rarer than glitter in both Mystique and Continental.…

It had just been listed and I asked the seller about spray, motor, color wheel, and other condition issues. He sent me extra pictures along with an excellent response. So, I pulled the trigger.
This is now my new record amount paid for a single lamp. The prior record was for Erin's Mystique which I love and get compliments from everyone that sees it.
Any lamps get you into trouble?

ere made for very long - at least I get that impression. I have a b/w, undated catalog illustration for one, with the colors listed (standard orange/yellow, red/clear, green/blue) which I got along with ads with identical fonts and layout for the lava Mystique and Continental, which are late-70s lamps. They've all got that beautiful piece of green leatherette on the bottom, gold cap and spiral, brushed silver base, and interesting and sturdy construction.
I traded mine off a few years ago to another nice collector, and I'm finding myself hoping more and more that, eventually, I'll find something else rare that I like less and can see if he'll trade back. But he really restored it beautifully, more than I ever tried to do - all I did was replace the contents.
Bohdan's is the only green/blue I've seen, all others have been red/clear, making orange/yellow currently its rarest color.…
fetti GemLites, 650 (silver silver/clear) and 642 (black silver/pink) have their globes swapped.
I visited Lava World in, I think, 1999 or 2000. At that time, they had SOME old catalogs, which they photocopied (very darkly) as well as two copies of issues of the Lava Liter, an early-days in-company newsletter. They told me they had zero older or discontinued lamps, and they had a display of current models running.
Here are four screengrabs from the YouTube video. In three, I've IDed a number of unusual older lamps, including Mediterranean, Saturna, Carlisle, Aladdin, Enchantress Planters of both styles with orig. flowers, Mystique lava, 650 Confetti GemLite, a Giant Lava, an unusually flat-based Consort, as well as an unidentified lamp, a black square base with plastic sides and silver surface with an Elegant-type bottle sitting in it...? There's a rain lamp, too, a Creators' Shower-Lite with the Venus statue, an older late 70s-early 80s large size.…

This is quite ridiculous really.... I seen a few of those continentals sell over the years and never once did they ever go over $250. I got outbid $.50 on one, for $225 so ya, I bet the seller is shitting himself right now lol. Now I am tempted to post my 2 boxed mystiques and see what these guys would do to each other
Its like the thunderdome of the lava lamp collectors,. Two man enter, one man leave!
