"First thought, you say you are using a plug adapter.  Is it an adapter or converter?  UK uses 220 volt outlets, US uses 110v outlets.  If you are using an adapter the lamp isn't getting enough current to heat properly.  A…"

I recently purchased a new Mathmos lamp through a eBay reseller who said he acquired it from the Mathmos factory in the UK. He shipped it to me in the United States. It came in what looked like entirely authentic factory packaging.
