Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Since we switched over to the social network version of Oozing Goo, I have placed a "donate" button on the site to help offset the hosting costs associated with the new setup. I'm happy to say that we've recieved 8 total donations in 8 months, ranging from $10.00 to $50.00. The donations were made by 6 members so far. Thanks guys! As a little recognition for their generosity, I have started an OG Donors group. (The name is kinda boring - if anoyone can come up with a better name, let me know.) And I created the first version of the OG Donor Medallion that people can put on their profile pages to show that they helped support the site financially. If you would like to donate, any amount is appreciated.

Donations are processed through PayPal, but a PayPal account is not required. Credit cards are accepted. Just click the "donate" button at the top left of the Main Page.

Thanks again,
Mark Goo

This site has given me so much valuable information that I'm glad to give what I can. I wish it was more. My lava lamp addiction takes alot of my spare funds. Maybe you can relate to this?

Right, you wouldn't want road rash on that beautiful man breast in your avatar. :-)
By the way, for those of you waiting for the new medallions, soon baby, soon.

In 6 months membership has more than doubled. There will always be growing pains with rapid growth and there will always be folks that quick in and out and there will always be creeps that come and go.
I was quite pleased with how the last bunch of creeps were handled by Mark and by members who stood up for each other. Don't mess with the Lava Buds! Ha!

This site has been invaluable to me as a new collector and I will continue to support the site personally and financially as I'm able.

Jerome,
Thank you for your help. You rule.

lavabubbles,
Gosh, I don't know if this is what I had in mind. I, for one, think this new setup is WAYYY better than the old. I think you are romanticisizing the old OG. The only way to communicate on it was via the message board. This has profile pages, forums, blogs, chats, groups.... so many ways to express yourself and share ideas. I don't think people are on here just to "try and out do other people". I think we have gotten to know each other way better on the new OG.

All said, for fees alone, not including time or labor, OG costs about $50.00 a month.

Bohdan,
I just want to thank you again for your continued support. I have definitely decided not to do a mandatory charge as have a lot of super niche sites like OG. The paid membership sites do okay financially but they stifle new membership and growth. I think now, with the recognition, we may get some more help.

Of course, it is completely voluntary and I don't want anyone to feel any guilt whatsoever for not donating. Everyone is welcome here (well, not the "crazy" people). You know it is inevitable that we get more/different views on OG - we're a more interesting site now with 400+ members. It just takes more time to manage.

Keep your eyes peeled. I will continue to make improvements to the site. I still want to incorporate an old style message board if I can figure out how to integrate the code. That will not happen tomorrow. But look for that and other great improvements in the future.

Matt,
Duly noted. I prefer this setup because people can be more creative and contribute content and show off their collections easier. Of course, I'm glad you still come and put up with all the bells and whistles. :-)
