Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I recently picked up a LL off eBay and I asked the seller for the numbers off the top of the bottle. She told me 21. I looked it up and it is purple/red. However, she was selling a clear/raspberry color. I bought because it looked good.

I got it in and sure enough, it is super clear and raspberry color. So what happened? It obviously is not a purple/red like the cap says unless it was run forever and never turned off - or it was faded intentionally ( I don't think).

Hmm.. either way - it's a very interesting color. It's not a hot pink, but it's not a red. Like I said - it's a really cool raspberry color.

Purple/red, a color combo often called "Royal Red", actually has an interesting reddish-pink wax. I have two of these, one has faded to clear and it's exactly as you describe.

Royal Red (I don't know if this was an official designation) was, incidentally, a hot seller. An EXTREMELY hot seller... Back when Spencers had a big deal with Lava and was buying lamps by the thousands, my local Spencers - one of the top-selling stores in the chain at the time - got in a huge shipment of this color when it first arrived, and sold out in one day.
What causes it to fade? Just time?
Sun
can we see a picture?
I will put one up later. :)
Here are the pics. Never realized how hard it is to photograph a LL and show the colour accurately. It's not the hot pink and it's not red. Between them - also the flow is just amazing!

Hmm.. so it's a hot pink?
I might pick up the zebra/hot pink and compare the two. See which one is pinker. It is a cool color - that's for sure. I just didn't take it for "hot pink".
Yeah, if my tax money comes in and all is well - I will buy the whole safari series. It's like 160 bux for all new lamps.
