Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

My new Heritage neon green Grande just came and I can't wait to plug it up, but there's a cardboard covering over what is probably the dimmer switch wires up the inside wall of the base.   It's right next to that 100 watt bulb, but it looks like it's on there really good.   Am I supposed to take that off?   Sorry for the dumb question.  I don't want or need a fire, but this cardboard cover is fixed in there really good and when I barely pulled on it, it don't move.   I've never seen this and don't know what to do about it.

I'll post some pics of all lamps when I get them going.  All bases are perfect, the globes are too, and all are perfectly clear!!   I'm very happy!

My Grande took FOREVER to get going the first time because of the way it first exploded/spiked.

Sorry to hear that about the Wizard though.

Can't wait to see pics of your stuff!

I think my Grande is going through what yours did, Erin.  Kirk said not to panic, that his Giant does that same "flipping sideways" thing.  Whew.

The Wizard is doing better, I think those white blobs of whatever are melting and after I turned down the dimmer a bit, it's flowing much better.

The Century is the one acting up worse now.   Came off the coil.   I fixed that and rolled the dimmer down a bit on it too, and it is doing "some" better.   I think they just need more running time.   I've taken a few pics, but will take more as it progresses and hopefully that lovely Grande will start flowing in a few hours like your gorgeous pink!   ;-))

Yep, mine flipped sideways and took over 6-8 to flow. I started it up at 5pm and by 11pm, it still wasn't flowing. Woke up this morning to BEAUTIFUL flow.

Fired it up again tonight and it took 2-3 hours to get going. Much better the 2nd time around.

I have some little bits of wax stuck to the side, too. Very small. Those usually burn off.

Good thing these have dimmers! I've noticed LL's new stuff (32oz) are on 25W bulbs and I bet their overall formula is "lighter" than it used to be.

I was wondering that exact same thing about a formula change.  Why else are the bulbs lower in wattage and they now have dimmers on them?  Thank goodness they do, as they are runnning much hotter than they used to run.

I'll probably be glued to this Grande all night!   I can't wait to see it get going, I've never had such a nice big lamp and am very excited.

This Century is worrying me though.  That one big blob of wax will "not" leave the top of the globe.  After it spiked very strangely, it broke off and that piece stayed and won't come down.   I dimmed it a bit, but am very disappointed in lack of flow, and it coming off the coil.   I might dim it a bit more and see what happens.  It's the one with bits of wax stuck to the sides.  Some have come off, but it has no flow to speak of at all and that blob of wax stuck in the top is making me nuts!  OCD!!!!!

I just ordered a red/yellow Century and the green Grande!!!

Keep me posted Libby. I'm excited to hear how everyone's turn out.

You got it, sweetie, I'll keep you posted!   I sure have fingers crossed for your red/yellow Century to do much better than mine.  But things may change!

Great that you ordered the neon green Grande and the Century!!   Can we order off the website now?  Is it safe?

The Grande is starting to MELT!!!  It's almost back down in the bottom of the globe!!   Yesssssss.  ;-)

same here libby.  the flow of my new centuries (r/y and b/w) is a bit strange for the first run.  this is to be expected though since most new lamps run much better after a few cycles.

i've yet to fire up the green grande though!

Yay!!  Post pictures when it is flowing please!

Brad, my r/y Century won't flow much at all.  Came off the coil, half the wax stuck in the top.  I don't know what to do with it.  Reckon I should just turn it off and try again tomorrow?    This one is beyond strange, it's the "Twilight Zone."

Keith, you know I'll post you some pics tomorrow.   I know how much you "love" my photographic skills.  ;-O

I have to draw the line at videos, Brad tried to tell me how to do that, but YouTube???  Please.  I could do much better off my own computer.  LOL

Ok, this Century and Wizard are getting turned off right now.  They're dysfunctional and makin me that way.  I'll give em another chance to redeem themselves tomorrow.

Neon Green Grande is doing great, not flowing yet, but already spiking in really wild shapes, I love it.   It'll stay on all night!   I can't wait to see what it does when it really starts flowing!!   Such a lovely color of neon green too.   I'm very happy with it so far.  :)

The cardboard is a electrical insulator and needs to be on the dimmer. Perfectly normal and has been on every dimmer I have installed.
