Hi Dr What?! I googled inkjet printer ink and there was a huge variety... Is there a certain one that you suggest?

Also do you suggest any other ways to dye the goo? I have all the MT dyes but I'd like a little more variety of colors for goo as well.

I appreciate all your shared knowledge! Thanks!

Don't use food coloring, Inkjet printer ink works way better then food coloring and it lasts much longer (haven't had one fade on me yet). You can buy refill bottles on ebay.

Does the food coloring last though? or does the color fade after time?

McCormick liquid food coloring, available at any food store. Use a drop at a time, most globes only need 1-4 drops to get the color your looking for.

what u use to color the water?

Any kind of inkjet ink should be fine. I've used the cheap refill bottles off of ebay. I've heard that liquid candle dye works as well Also I'm sure other gooheads here have used different dyes other then food and printer ink but they'd have to speak up cause I don't remember what those would be :)

Thanks Dr!

One word,

Highlighter pen ink (oops, 3 words)

I have inkjet refill ink to use but haven't tried it yet.  It should be easier to use than taking apart a highlighter pen.  By the way still no fading on that globe that I recolored.

This is my 4th time making my own goo from scratch.  I am getting the hang of it.  This is the first time this lamp has flowed and it is just warming up.  I mixed the wax and water last night and left it to cool.  I like the turquoise color of the goo, I think it just needs a little more.  I love the artminds brand of wax dye at Michaels.  The wax eats it up and a bottle with enough dye for about 8 14" globes is $5.  The Palmolive "Pure And Clear" works great as a surf, no extra dyes, scents or other ingredients.  I found using Dawn clouds the water just a bit.  I got the propylene glycol on Amazon for $13.  I am loving making my own lamps from scratch.  I am picking up some more cloudy lamps to rehab from Craigslist later today.

Wow that turquoise looks killer, love it.  Would love to hear how your formula holds up over time!

Thank you!  $4 and I used maybe 10% of it on this one globe.

I got pair of knock off lava rockets from a friend.  They were cloudy and didn't flow well.

I dumped them, cleaned them, and added my own water and goo, all mixed from scratch.

I am slowly getting the hang of this.  Once the bubbles work their way out of the wax and the water clears (which is will), I think this is going to be my favorite rehab.  So far...

Here are my goo kits

Yellow Voss 375ml,  Green 12oz accent, and Blue Voss 800ml (looks purple)

The blue one needs a dimmer or a smaller bulb. Its using a 40W R14 reflector lamp and it can only run for three hours until it starts to overheat. The yellow has some slight sticking issues, but that's because I made a diluted surfactant coating that wasn't strong enough. I think I can get inline dimmers at places like Home Depot or Canadian Tire, but if that is not the case, I am going to try the 25W version of the same reflector bulb and see how it looks.
