Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

HELLO to everybody,

Lava lamps are an old passion, yet unsatisfyed till last wednesday, whan my first lamp, a satin silver astro from beginning of the nineties hit my mail box... since then...a lava lite from the 80ies and an aristocrat followed.
There's a terrible problem: they don't fit in the plug :(
I had an USA-ITALY adapter, but the american OLD plug doesn't fit in the holes, since one stem is wider at the point.
Help me please

Thank you guys!!!
didn't know you could file off the wide area.
the problem, DR.WHAT, is that I guess it's the opposite: the newer plugs have equal stems, the old had different ones. Do you know if they sell adapters for the old plugs??
bye
