Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I recently purchased a new lava brand lava lamp from Spencers, and the lamp hasn't flowed properly since I purchased it. It seems to heat up normally, but when it finally should start to produce bubbles, all the wax does is sit at the bottom of the basin. The lamp came with a 40 watt bulb, anyone have any ideas about what's going on with it? I attached a picture of what it looks like, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

..or , I guess, try a 60w bulb.
bye
Nice looking lamp, I hope you manage to sort the problem. I hope it isn't a problem with the whole batch purchased by the store. You may need to ask for a swap if you don't get any joy from the suggestions made here.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I looked at the basin of the lamp, and the coil wasn't in complete contact with the wax, so I went back and swapped out the lamp. Hopefully the new one is in better working order.
