Developing Tiny Pieces

I have a couple lava lamps that are developing a lot of tiny blobs when they lava starts flowing realy well. Is there a way to cure this? These are real tiny blobs, like eraser sized to pen tip sized. one is a 52 oz. and the other is a 20 oz. should I put in a lower watt bulb in these? The bubls are the same as they came with.
