Am i correct in saying that a Halogen 40W bulb

generates more heat than a 40W incandescent lamp bulb?

Yea your correct on that - i think its to do with the coil in the lamp being closer together, diffrent gas in the bubble and a better reflector.
Halogens vary but, as a rule,  burn much hotter.  They are durable bulbs, but they can break and, if near moisture, can explode.  Contact the bulb company for info on specific bulbs.
