Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have a Silver Starship base that has some old residue from perhaps a price tag.  Anyone know the best way to clean it up?  I've tried Goo Gone, but it didn't work.  I do have some Cameo Aluminum & Stainless Steel Cleaner, but haven't tried it yet.

as odd as it sounds, clear nail polish remover, soak a cotton pad/ball, put it on the residue, let it soak a couple min, then start to rub in a circular direction, residue should come right off, the key is the soaking time and using clear remover

I just cleaned off tape residue on one like that with WD 40.

Thanks for the ideas!
