Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I'm not a big collector or even close. I have an older yellow w/clear liquid lamp that I enjoy, (52 oz) and want to get another one the same size. Actually I want a black w/ clear and am having quite a time finding one. But as I've been reading the forum I see that current Lavas are made in China and from what I can see are not as...."good" as the older US made ones. So... am I wasting my $$ getting a newer lamp or should look for vintage? Since its just $20 or so (well shipping can raise that about 50%), for new am I just being too whiny and give it a shot regardless..

thanks.

Lars......
