Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I was wondering if anyone has ever experimented with color bulbs in a lava lamp. Traditional party bulbs are 25 watt and too big but I think they would fit in an Icon base...

Has anyone ever found or painted a bulb? I have stained glass paint for use on glass and plastic suncatchers, the colors are very vibrant and transparent. I was going to coat a 40 watt clear appliance bulb with the Blue Diamond color or Orange Poppy,,,, I have 8 different colors  red orange yellow green blue indigo purple and brown

Would this be safe or do you think the paint would crack or burn from the heat? Also not sure if it would lower the light/heat output of the bulb.

I think adding a color to some of my globes would really enhance them/change the look but not sure how safe this would be...

Has anyone used colored flood bulbs in the giants or grandes?

Any advice/photos would be cool.
