I have been enjoying collecting this Colormax series very much, they seem to flow very well for China made and they are pretty darn cool too. I have all of the 17-inch ones - Geometric, Paintball and Rainbow.
I noticed something weird about the availability of these lamps that has been going on for a while now, the LavaWorld website has them in the crappy and undesirable 14.5 inch sizes, while Spencer's seems to get the same designs in the 17 inch sizes I actually want.
Of particular desire to me is the Fireworks model. I have been checking my local Spencer's for the last number of months hoping this one will appear on the shelves in a 17 inch size with no luck so far. However, just the other day I walked in and they had a new model that isn't even on the LavaWorld site in the 14.5 size- It is called "Rasta" (pic of mine flowing with packaging attached). This one basically changes from Yellow to Orange as it flows upward. I love it!!!
I have been watching the forum here and no one seems to ever mention these models as they come out etc. I am kind of a quiet guy here, but since no one else is doing it- I guess I have too :) I would like people to post here when they spot a new model, either colormax or the non-colormax (example- plaid and tie die), but with screened bases (17 inch or larger only- all I care about anyway). I am most interested in what's at Spencer's or any other physical store as that is where I have the most luck getting clear globes on these babies.
I really want that Firework one, please Lava Lite- release it!!!

I called up LavaLite and left them a message. Susan in customer service got back to me today and we discussed these. She said that it is true that the 17 inch versions are a Spencer's exclusive and the only way to get them- can't even order from LavaLite directly. She looked into her system and found no record that they make a 17 inch Fireworks Colormax model. She seems to think it may not exist. However, there have already been 2 sightings at 2 different malls of this elusive product. I am sure these spotters must have seen them, maybe they are just too new and just breaking out there to be in their record system.... Who knows, but if someone else spots one, please shoot a pick of it, the box especially- and post it here if you would be so kind :)
You should have an exclusive email address for sending pics. They post automatically, then pull it up and enter your description. You can find your link on your add picture page.

I have a picture I just don't know how to upload it from the iPhone app to the website
And this is the problem I have with Lava Lite - they simply don't seem interested in promoting their brand. Why not advertise these Spencer exclusive lamps on the Lava Lite website? Or at least link you with Spencer's lava section if their rationale is that it must be able to be sold to be shown. I found out about the Rasta Colormax from this thread. I am obviously thankful for that, but isn't that fact alone just downright pathetic?
Does the toob not identify it as a "Lava Lite" lamp? Does Lava Lite not get a cut from sales of Spencer's exclusive lamps? Why the hell wouldn't you advertise a lamp that you manufactured? And I think it was just last week that Lava Lite put out a teaser post followed the next day by their big reveal on Facebook. What their panties were in a bunch about? http://lavalamp.com/new
Are you freaking kidding me?
Personally - I almost wish they would kill their Facebook page. Its worthless and cheapens an already cheapened brand. It has nothing to do with their actual product, just an outlet for an amateur graphic designer to put out really, really bad work (sorry Tim if you are the one doing it, but its horrid). They could have a constant stream of unreal Lava Lite shots from this site alone, but they seem to prefer stock photography with lava lamp images superimposed over the top.

Update:
So I have been still searching. I called around to all the stores I would be willing to drive to, all say they don't have it and it doesn't even seem to exist in their computer inventory system. I even called the 2 stores that are way too far away, but where they were spotted by other goo members, but they don't have them either, so can't get them shipped to me...
So strange. Also, many clerks seemed to claim yes- they have it and it's called the "paintball" model, to which I reply no that is not the right one. I am wondering now if those sightings were confusing the 2 models and really seeing the paintball model and not the fireworks. Both Lava Lite corporate and the inventory systems of Spencer's show it not existing.
Now more than ever, I would love a photo posted if someone has another sighting , most importantly the box and item number barcode.
Until then, I'll I can do is watch I guess :(
I am sure you have seen that lamp in the 14.5 inch size....but if not, here it is at Amazon.
Thank You for your response, but this thread is about the 17 inch model only. Those 14.5 ones are no good- they don't flow and I would never buy any of them, but I do know they are easily available at Amazon and LavaLite.com, which is my lament- The 17inch should be the common one- it's the better lamp.

Completely agree Jim yes they try and promote themselves but they end up doing a really bad job of it and making it a whole lot more tacky then they already made it. Let the product speak for its self not make graphics of the lamp as the actual lamp is so bad quality it cant be used.
I am not the graphics desinger or anything else to do with LL but yes I do admit I do like the base designs. I am a absoloute sucker for color, quirkeness and novelty. I am not being fooled into thinking that the globe and / or flow will be up to scratch though so thats a fixing or goo kit project in its self.
