Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Found oozinggoo.com when I was looking for ways to repair the Grande I picked up at CostCo a few years ago.  It's one of the Chinese made ones that has gone extremely cloudy and ceased to flow (going to try replacing the fluid one of these weekends).

It was here that I found out about really big Lava lamps.  I was bowled over by videos of the  Colossus lamps and really want to see if I could get one, I couldn't find them available anywhere so I wrote LavaLite.  I wanted to let this group know what I got this from Lava Lite today:

We have a special promo on the Colossus for serious buyers.   This will be the last time the Colossus will be seen.

Please see attached promo sheet with pricing included.

If you are interested please contact on my direct line at 630-496-6663.

Best regards,

Sadly these prices are outside of my discretionary funds, even though they include shipping.  I post it in hopes that someone here may be interested.

I haven't done a white glove inspection yet, but the glass is most definitely clear and free of bubbles.  I think you are going to be very pleased.

SCHWING!! It is awesome!! I ordered a purp yellow too with granite base and table. Can't wait!!!
Does the bottle look clear and free of bubbles in the glass?
Like the Non-chinese bottles?

OK - Now that I'm properly fortified here we go...

Colossus being loaded into pickup...

Opening up the globe box...

It's clear!!

Time to get it on its base...  It's heavy, but two people can handle it.

It's a beauty!

I'll post more pictures tomorrow once it starts flowing.  Looking good ...

Looks like I'm getting one after all! She said they had about 30 left, and 15 of them are blue/yellow. LOL! I guess nobody else wanted something so common! My rationale is this: I don't WANT to ever open this, but the only place I have in the house to put it is next to a window. If the blue leeches out in the sun, I can re-dye the water another color like purple, orange or green, or keep it clear and either keep the clear/yellow, or make it clear/green by adding blue dye, or a clear/orange by adding red dye. Point is, I'll have more options with a blue/yellow...I think. Of course I could always make a clear/red a clear/orange too...

LOL!

I know these are US made, but that red ring looks exactly like every Chinese lavalite cap I've ever seen.

Oh, and I hope you do too, MM!

It's been 12 hours, and I can wait no more!  I'm turning this baby on!

According to the instructions, the wax should be melted and flowing in 6-8 hours!  I have the dimmer switch turned all the way up - LIFT OFF!

After turning the lamp on this morning, I was able to inspect the glass more closely.  There are a couple of small scratches and a few tiny bubbles in the glass.  I think this is to be expected, especially in glass of this size.

In my opinion, the imperfections are hardly noticeable unless you get out the magnifying glass.  They don't detract from the sheer beauty of this lamp.

There is also a half dollar size smudge of yellow wax clinging to the side of the globe about 6 inches from the bottom.  A little heat should melt this back into the lake below.  ;>)

Smirkle - Can you describe the shipping hand off a bit? I am a little perplexed by you loading this onto a pickup.  Just trying to gauge what happens when the truck arrives at my house.

Sure, Jim.  I had the choice to pick it up at the freight company on Friday or wait until they delivered on Monday.  I didn't want to wait all weekend and the freight company was right on my way home from work, so it was a no brainer for me.

If they had delivered, it would be no problem to remove the shrink wrap and put the box with the globe in it on a dolley. In fact, that's what I did when I got it home.  The box with the base is light and no big deal.

Hope this helps.

By the way, still waiting for the flow.  After the first hour, the lava came to life and created, "The Tree of Life".  The tree fell down after 4 hours.  It's been right at 6 hours, and it's still heating up!  Hey, it's the Colossus, man!
