Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Found oozinggoo.com when I was looking for ways to repair the Grande I picked up at CostCo a few years ago.  It's one of the Chinese made ones that has gone extremely cloudy and ceased to flow (going to try replacing the fluid one of these weekends).

It was here that I found out about really big Lava lamps.  I was bowled over by videos of the  Colossus lamps and really want to see if I could get one, I couldn't find them available anywhere so I wrote LavaLite.  I wanted to let this group know what I got this from Lava Lite today:

We have a special promo on the Colossus for serious buyers.   This will be the last time the Colossus will be seen.

Please see attached promo sheet with pricing included.

If you are interested please contact on my direct line at 630-496-6663.

Best regards,

Sadly these prices are outside of my discretionary funds, even though they include shipping.  I post it in hopes that someone here may be interested.

I think the Colossus lava lite lamp is very nice, but way too big.

Ha!

So anyone regret the base they picked and want to swap? Silver is all they had left for me and I'd prefer the black base. Anyone actually pick theirs up directly from Elmhurst?

Good luck with that swap Al.  I sense the black granite base is the most desirable.

Logistically, I could have picked up in Elmhurst, but I chose not to.  I live up in Grayslake, so I live quite close as well.  On this occasion I felt it prudent to leave the delivery to the professionals.  They had the means and know how to get it to me the right way (strapped upright on a pallet) and it gave me peace of mind.  All I would need is to pick it up in my little Tacoma pickup and have some airhead yapping on her cell phone rear end me on the way home.

My wake up call this morning was from the local freight company. Thursday between 8-12. And on Valentines Day. How sweet is that? I got so excited I made him say it twice. ;)

Was wondering if anyone ever "burned" the wax with too much heat.  When I turn my lamp up to full I get more water bubbles in the goo, but they clear up after a few hours at medium heat.

crack your globe. i thought i read somewhere (can't find it) that it can mess with your wax quality. but I don't think it was permanent

This was also a question I asked a few pages ago but no one chimed in and I still wonder this and hope there is someone that could chime in that has some input on this here is my question below from a few pages ago.

Does anyone have any info on the bulbs used now they are 250 watt infra red heat lamps I just wonder the long term effect on the lava will it fade it over time or can it burn the lava I know it has the dimmer but it is still infra red heat. The originals were 200 watt flood or spot lamps which do not run in the infra red spectrum.

The original bulb will be in the inferred spectrum defuntly as this is what give it the heat - no or low inferred source from a bulb is a very cool bulb i.e. florescent, LED etc.

I doubt it will burn the lava, its hard to do that just use the right bulb, don't let it overheat  or run it for too long a time in one go.

i still haven't got an e-mail from LL yet and the shipping company says they never heard of me !! ..................

WOW dont know where you get your info on incandcent bulbs the heat that is created is from the tungston burning at 4500 deg a normal bulb does not operate in the infra red spectrum the lens on the bulb is what puts it in the infra red spectrum it is there to create a more spot on radiant heat that is the reason for my question. ( If you look at the 250 watt bulb that is used the bulb face is diff from a standard clear bulb it is designed to create white visable light but also radiant infra red light.)

Just got a call from the freight company in Austin. My red/clear is ready to be picked up! The freight guy said, didn't you have a delivery like this a week or so ago? Hehehe
