Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

First I would like to thank all of you nice folks who welcomed me these past few days.  Actually I just purchased 2 new Astros to be shipped from  from a British  e-merchant  seller .  They will be gifts for my granddaughters at Christmas.  So I have 2 questions:  If my husband changes the cord to an American pronged one  will the Astro work?  I have ordered some 130 volt e14 bulbs to use in the socket.  AND   does anyone know approximately how many ounces the Astro bottle holds?  I have a feeling it's bigger than I anticipated, but so what.  Thanks for whatever you can send my way.   I really enjoy reading all of the discussions here  about various subjects.  When  I first got married (1965)  the Lava Lite factory was about 3 blocks from our apartment.   They actually had a retail store attached but we were so poor I never got to shop there.    I always wanted one but never could rationalize spending the money.  Maybe when I see the Astros in action I will break!    Take care, all  and thanks again!!!

I would recommend replacing everything including the socket with US parts.  I sense the Europeans will be stricter on the light bulb ban than in America and US bulbs are readily available and cheaper.  Check this thread out.

Replacing all the electronics is not a grate idea - you only need to change the plug and the bulb as the wirieing and bulb holder will be fine, also you can't get the bulb holder on a astro out without braking the plastic clips which hold it on - then you will have to use silicone to stick it back together :( (i know this beceuse I made the same mistake).

I don't know the exact quantities in a astro but i think its about 2 and a half leaters of fluid and probabley a quater of a leater of wax (it sounds about right)

Thanks.  I think I can more or less always get the Euro-base bulb from US  sellers.

I think that's what we will do.  My husband is smart and he thinks the new cord with the Euro-base bulb will work too.  I appreciate your taking the time to answer

In time I will probabley do a tutorial (like the gookit one) on converting lamps from UK - US and visa versa

It will be in the lava libeary.

Do you know anything about the wiring in a UK plug?  My husband wonders what color is hot what color is ground and what color is neutral?   Ka  Pow!!!!!     The plug on the Mathmos Astro has  3 prongs.  Thanks....
