Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I told myself I would not buy any Cuda fiber optic lamps. I was strictly a Fantasia guy. However, that has changed. I am glad it did because I received the most gorgeous lamp I have ever seen in the mail yesterday. It's called the "Saturn" and it's made by Cuda Products. The lamp is amazing. It has a ring around it's globe which gives it, it's name. The colors produced by the color wheel are stunning to say the least. I am extremely happy I picked this up. I now own 2 Cuda lamps.

Cuda lamps also use glass fiber sprays like Fantasia. The lamps are also made of metal and quality parts as well. Makes me wonder if Fantasia didn't make them for Cuda.

Here is the photo shoot..

WOW! I want fiber Optics!!!
Hehe, thanks guys :D
Great photos Kris. This looks Fantasia standard to me, well almost. nice original packaging and instructions too.
Yeah it's up there but definitely in second place. Cuda products seem to have bare necessities. Seems Fantasia Products have heavier duty parts in them and the metal is thicker too. Cuda's metal, not as thick but still good.
No vid or pics....FireFox here
There were at least three firms in the biz - I think there was a 4th one the name of which I can't remember. According to my old Fantasia contact, Cuda Products, Fantasia and Dolan Jenner were all companies (Well, Fantasia was a front for... drat, gotta find those old catalog scans again, anyone got 'em? Lost in the HD crash) But they were all doing R&D on using glass fiber optics for communication, medical etc. and the lamps were a means of funding the research. From what I've seen, I think Fantasia was the top, Cuda next, and Dolan Jenner below. The few Dolan Jenner lamps I've seen looked simpler.

Cuda also made a Love Bug copy, chrome with red holofoil, the Harmony model 202, and a Galaxy copy called...the Galaxy, model 101 - no idea what sort of wheel inside. The only Dolan Jenner photos I have are of a lamp called the model 75, a square black block with rounded-corner, rectangular stickers of Love Bug-type silver holofoil on the sides, sitting on four black ball feet and with a standard sphere-type spray - again, no idea what's inside.
I am aware of Fantasia & Cuda. The others I was not aware of (I knew there were 3 but not four). I have never seen a DJ lamp. It's mostly Fantasia and some Cuda thrown in. Quality and durability wise, Fantasia wins hands down. Heavier, metal/glass parts with good quality insides. Cuda has the same parts, but the metal is thinner, parts are smaller and cheaper. One thing I have noticed is the sprays for Cuda are identical to those from Fantasia.

I have the Cuda Harmony lamp. It's still in it's original box. Rarely used. I need to do a photo shoot of it. Have not done that for some reason. I was surprised at how similar it was to the love bug. Pretty much identical except for the metal top/bottom colors, holofoil color and size. The Harmony has chrome tops and bottoms and the love bug has black. Insides also are nearly identical. I think I have seen the Galaxy but am unsure. I can say the Cuda Saturn lamp is an amazing lamp. They captured the whole ring thing nicely with the lip on the lamp. It's one of my favorites now. The color wheel produces some vivid colors as well. Very nice.

Cuda is still around, but it was either bought up by Sunoptics or it just morphed into Sunoptics. Cuda is now called "Cuda Fiberoptics" and manufactures the same stuff Vicon was doing (medical, dental, surgical stuff). They no longer produce lamps of course.

Can you post the picture of the Dolan Jenner lamp? I would be interested in seeing that.
Did you get it fixed lamphead? I used FF exclusively and no issues. Let me know.
