Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Here's a curiosity I pulled out of a standard Crestworth short chrome cap recently (- eg for a Nordic).

It seems to be the remains of a development T-cap.

There's the stub of a ridged-grip Bakelite screw cap, which was glued to the underside of the chrome cap.

This was further strengthened by a chromed outer ring, also glued to the inside of the cap.

Presumably someone twigged the two parts could be combined into the Bakelite T-cap

Can anyone throw any more light on this oddity?
