Magma tower if your reading this, I am not having a go at all but I think you really have to look into your pick / packing and shipping process.
i would just add the wax to your lamp and see if the black specs and white pieces show up. if they do, snap photos and request a replacement/refund from goo kit.
side note - the folks at goo kit shipped the wrong colors to me. i received red instead of yellow. when i contacted them, they said something like, yikes, you got someone else's order. will UPS yellow to you tomorrow." no big deal really as i got the red dye for free!
Why what's wrong the packing and shipping process? Not like anything can break. It's hard wax, and plastic containers...

I ordered a new goo kit back in May, 2012. I goo'ed my 52oz lamp, just like I did many times before when I had my old goo kit from 2011. I noticed that my 40 watt bulb would only dome up the wax. I had to go to a 60 watt bulb just to get it to flow properly. And yes, I have what appears to be little black specs in my goo, a lot of little black specs. I guess as long as you use a dark colored dye you wont see them. Hopefully they can fix the black specs problem. Not too worried about the bulb wattage.
I'm really sorry to hear y'all had problems too. It's one thing when you disappoint a new customer, but when buyers who once thought you practically hung the moon turn their backs-that's a serious problem...
Brad-I'd already emailed them before your post, plus I saw first-hand how bad all the gak looked. NONE of my pics even begin to tell the same story my eyes saw. It's like I was tryin' to photograph a freakin' ghost or somethin', cuz I could see everything jus fine, but my camera sure couldn't. But anyway, it was jus too dirty!
Mattmos-Of course YELLOW is the color I want most of all...lol! Are you saying you can still see the specs, with the lamp all completed and functioning? Cuz that's bad, but would be good to know.
It seems like enthusiasts of lava lamps in America are being let-down by an endless stream of broken promises and disappointments from the only options we have. Have you read the reviews for the Telstar on the Mathmos USA site? How many want to spend $140 bucks on a lamp that requires special order bulbs? Or might tip out of an ill-fitting base if the wind blows too hard? And if LL never shipped another cloudy lamp again, it would only make it easier to see how BORING the flow of their goo is. Our last lamp had 2 big round blobs that only switched places over and over. So if gookits can't come to the rescue, I for one am S.O.L. in the lava dept...
Things have to change and people need to get there act together - its not rocket science serosley. Magma tower I think your a good company but the mistakes being made are very basic, as I said have a look at your shipping and pick packing process. I don't know where or how your mixing the goo but have a 'clean' room to make it in, this way imperfections can be illamated and controlled - it can be done. The previous orders have been fine (I can say as I am one of your customers and have done some good goo-kits on various lamps)
I don't know what is going on with Mathmos but they are really starting to annoy me and I am sure I am not the only one.
Lava Lite we have faith in you but don't mess things up as your just starting to change.
At the end of the day its not like it cant be done as it has been - why cant you look into the archives and learn from the good times not just the bad ones - yes I agree times and fashion has changed since the 90's but that is no reason to make inferior products or let your customers down.
Hi Jus, I made a Michael Myers lamp a few months ago for Halloween. I painted the lamp black and orange with a silhouette decal of Michael on the front. I then mixed the wax with their red dye, for a nice blood red goo. I didn't notice the black specs in the wax until it started flowing. I will say this, you will definitely be able to see these black specs in a yellow goo set-up.
Metallica Man, I totally agree with you. Magma Tower needs to get their formula right. Yes, the smaller lamps can bump up to a larger bulb wattage, but you can't bump up from the 100 watt bulbs for the Grandes. And I would have to concur with you, last years goo kits were the cats A$$.

I am since my grande won't flow at 100 watt reflecter... Don't leave me many options.... I don't know what happen, but they have really gone down hill. My kits last year were awesome, the the order and shipping was great. Emails from them were great. This year just terrible... I won't order from them again
Tim-I really admire your uplifting spirit of edification. I wish I had one like that...
Mattmos-I can see how the normal person would probably not notice that gak right off. A lot of it is so ridiculously tiny, it might not be possible to even detect if it were a shred smaller. But it's not...
I'd say you have grounds for re-issue on the goo kit.
I ordered from them often when I lived in my old house. Then my next door neighbor went berzerk for no reason, and threatened to kill me. We left that place, and moved here. I ordered another time...3 quarts of goo and one of each color...they all arrived melted, and all of the dyes leaked out. They replaced what was ruined with little trouble.
THEN, I ordered one more time...and when the tracking number said the package was "delivered", I went down to get it...it wasn't there. I contacted MT, they said they had sent it. I called UPS, and got the REAL story...it had been sent, but to the WRONG HOUSE. I had to risk my life to go and pick up that package...only to find that the goo WILL NOT FLOW. One of the quarts of goo was for ME, to make a grande for my birthday...my first one. It's been running for 6 days straight...no flow.
I'm just about fed up.
