Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello everyone i finally got around to fixing my mathmos jet i bought from a market it was extremely cloudy!! i purchased a cheap lava lamp a week later with clear water and red wax the same as my jet! so i opened up my jet and gutted the bottle of all wax and liquid and replaced it with the contents of the other lamp. it worked but the lava just stays in one big blob moving up and down. have i put too much wax in this or could it be the bulb? it has a 40w rounded bulb and the bottle wont sit comfortably. is there a way to make it have more blobs rather than just one? any help would be great, thanks guys

Thanks for replying , no there is wax covering the coil but a big lump of wax just flows off and goes up then down, i am not sure but the lamp i transferred the wax from was a bit bigger, would the amount of wax in the bottle make it flow different?
also what type of bulb should i have in this lamp? or do i have to buy one from mathmos?
You need a 30watt reflector bulb for jets. I might just be that the wax is getting old.

sadly the jet bottles arnt to easy to come across.
Thanks paul, the wax is from another lamp i owned, it flowed fine in its old bottle. i just prefer the jet lamp :)
yes it is a metal base jet, so i get a 40w reflector bulb then?

Finally fixed it!! i used the wax from a bust crestworth bottle & the blue liquid from a cheap lamp i picked up at a boot sale!! great result!! :D
It looks great.
Are you using a 30w or a 40w?
I have an old jet with a metal base that over heats after a couple of hours with a 40w but doesn't move very well with a 30w.
it has a 30w at the moment as i havnt gone to get a 40w yet, it takes about 2 hours to get going properly, when i first bought this it had a 40w wrong shaped bulb that was making it overheat.
Thanks.
your welcome
do the golfball bulbs throw out less heat than the reflector type?
Ok thanks, thats probably my problem then, I've been using a 40w reflector.
